CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
To develop biomass power plant under the framework of the GEF-4 project “Mini-grids based renewable energy (biomss) sources to augment rural electrification in Nigeria”

The GEF/UNIDO project aims at promoting a market-based approach to renewable energy (biomass) based mini-grids to augment rural electrification and generate energy for productive uses as well as promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) in the country.

UNIDO in collaboration with the Government of Nigeria is implementing a Global Environment Facility (GEF) – funded project that aims at addressing the existing gap electricity generation and distribution, and enhance energy access in rural areas through the promotion of mini-grid based renewable energy sources under this initiative, UNIDO is soliciting Expression of Interest (EOI) from companies or consortiums of companies, for joint development of biomass power plant adopting technologies such as gasification and combustion to be implemented in the country. Under this auspice, UNIDO will accept a commitment of cumulative capacity of up to 5,000 kW electrical output and a minimum acceptable capacity of 200 kW to provide energy for productive uses with the possibility of excess energy exported to grid. Nigeria has a huge potential of energy generation from different biomass resources such as wood waste (saw dust) and agro-residue (rice husk, etc.). However, feasibility studies already conducted identifies nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Ondo and Ogun states with large potential for power generation utilizing biomass waste from saw-mills. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) power plants are not acceptable to this project.

The proposed intervention aims to support project contractors/developers/private investors willing to develop these sites or other potential biomass based power plant sites under the frame work of the GEF project in Nigeria. If your company wishes to participate in this call for EOI, please visit UNIDO e-procurement portal (https://procurement.unido.org/) for further documents.

Submission deadline for EOI is 17:00 Vienna-Austria time, 20 July 2018.
